Temple architectural decoration is an important research direction in China's historical buildings, and Mazu, as a Chinese local god originated in Fujian, has a high position in China's coastal areas. Macao, a coastal city, has the custom of worshipping Mazu, which has also become Macao's intangible cultural heritage. There are 49 temples in Macao. There are 10 temples with Mazu and five with Mazu as the main God. Among them, except that Mazu cultural village was built in 2002, the remaining four are ancient temples with Mazu as the main God. This study focuses on four ancient temples with Mazu as the main God: mage temple, yuweng Street Tin Hau Temple, Taizi Tin Hau palace and Luhuan Tin Hau Temple. The purpose of the study is to understand the characteristics of Mazu belief temples in Macao, analyze, summarize and compare them, and find the commonalities and characteristics, so as to better develop and protect Mazu belief temples in Macao.
The method of field investigation was used to collect data in the early stage, and the four temples of MAGE temple, yuweng Street Tin Hau Temple, Taizi Tin Hau Temple and Luhuan Tin Hau Temple were investigated, photographed and mapped respectively. Then, according to the existing data and the data obtained from field research, this paper summarizes and analyzes the charts of the four temples, and summarizes their architectural composition and decoration and architectural modeling decoration. Finally, according to the content of induction and summary, this paper makes a comparative analysis and Research on the Mazu belief temples in Macao, and obtains the architectural decoration characteristics of Mazu belief temples in Macao. The research conclusion obtains the architectural decoration characteristics of roof, column base, queti, door and window in the architectural composition of Mazu temple in Macao; And the characteristics of stone lions, figures, animals and plants in architectural modeling. The conclusions obtained through this study can have a deeper understanding of the architectural decoration of Mazu belief temples in Macao, so that the temples can be better preserved and inherited, better protected and developed, and also provide reference materials and basis for the follow-up research of Mazu belief temples.
