The impact of memorable tourism experiences on tourists' behavioral intentions: The role of heritage travel motivation, visitor engagement and authenticity
The impact of memorable tourism experiences on tourists' behavioral intentions: The role of heritage travel motivation, visitor engagement and authenticity
Existing studies have limited researches on the antecedents and consequences of Memorable Tourism Experiences (MTEs) in the context of cultural tourism. This study establishes a structural framework that links heritage travel motivation, visitor engagement, authenticity, MTEs, and revisit intention and recommendation intention of tourists’ behavioral intentions, verifying the causes and effects of MTEs in the context of heritage tourism in urban historical and cultural districts. Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling is used to analyze the data collected from 245 tourists who visited the historic and cultural district of Yong Qing Fang. The results show that heritage travel motivation is a significant predictor of tourists' behavioral intentions. In addition, both visitor engagement and authenticity have significant impacts on MTEs. In contrast, MTEs partially mediates the relationship between visitor engagement and revisit intention, while it fully mediates the relationship between visitor engagement and recommendation intention. At last, MTEs completely mediates the relationship between authenticity and tourists’ behavioral intentions. The last of this study puts forward theoretical contributions to academic researchers and practical contributions to tourism destination managers as well as the future research directions.
