Objectives: The main objective of this study was to explore the relationship between adversity childhood experience, post-traumatic growth and depression, and the role of post-traumatic growth in mediating adversity childhood experience and depression, as well as to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction therapy on the regulation of depression and post-traumatic growth interventions in university students.
Methodology: Study 1 a completely random sample of university students from two universities in Zhuhai was selected at different levels and majors to fill out questionnaires, including the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-SF), the Brief Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale (CESD-10), and the Post-traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI). 289 valid questionnaires were obtained. SPSS was used to conduct the data analysis. In this way, the pathways of post-traumatic growth are explored in relation to childhood experiences of adversity and depression. Study 2 was based on Study 1.40 participants were selected, 20 of whom were treated with positive stress reduction therapy and 20 without intervention, to investigate the effectiveness of positive stress reduction therapy in intervening with depression in university students.
Conclusion: (1)adversity childhood experiences of college students can positively predict depression; (2) post-traumatic growth plays a part in mediating the formation of depression, i.e., adversity childhood experiences of college students can indirectly influence depression levels through post-traumatic growth; (3) positive stress reduction therapy can effectively intervene in post-traumatic growth and depression levels of college students, on the one hand.
